Research tools

Our research uses a variety of techniques to capture brain development:
  • Electroencephalography (EEG): EEG records electricity on the scalp which tells us about how your brain is working. This is one of our primary tools -- learn more about EEG here!
  • Eye tracking (ET): ET uses infrared light to track how eyes move.
  • "Hyperscanning" EEG:  This is a fancy word describing when we record EEG from two people at the same time, usually while they are interacting.
  • Heart-rate recording: We use a sticky pad to record heart rate during EEG
Although we do not have current active studies using MRI, we expect to launch projects soon @ USC!
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): The MRI machine can take pictures of your brain and tell us about how different parts of the brain work.

Current studies at the University of South Carolina

  1. We have launched our data collection for the Brain and Behavior Across Development (B-BAD) Study at South Carolina now for children aged 7-17 years old! If you are interested, contact our lab via email @ b.rad.laboratory@gmail.com.
  2. We see adult participants through the USC Participant Pool (SONA).
  3. We anticipate being able to see a few more BioGENE participants starting in July 2023. This includes:
    1. Families near Boston area July 13-17! Fill out your contact information on the BioGENE Study page if you'd like to participate.
    2. SCN2A Families attending the Boston family meeting July 18-22. See the updated SCN2A BioGENE page with the current open slots.

Current studies at the University of Alabama

We are in the last year of the Social Attention Study! We will be collecting data in both Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Columbia, SC until July 15, 2023. Here is the information for folks in Alabama: https://b-rad.ua.edu/social-attention-project.html

Interested in participating in one of our B-RAD Study?

We are currently waiting on final SC approvals. Let us know if you want to be on the wait list to participate in this study!
