Mind Matters is recruiting Black teens aged 12-17, AND their caregivers 18+ to participate in a collaborative study!
In this study, we want to understand how Black teens and their caregivers have conversations about, collaborate, and reflect on their daily life experiences.
Teens and caregivers will answer survey questions, listen to stories, have thoughtful discussions, and play collaborative games while we measure brain and heart activity. Teens and caregivers earn up to $60 EACH for participating. The study will take two hours and is located at the University of South Carolina campus in Columbia, SC. We will work with your schedule to find the best time and day for you and your teen to complete the study. |
How do we measure brain activity?
We use a wet cap called electroencephalography (EEG). This cap has small sponges and wires that we soak in warm water. To the right are videos of our lab staff applying the net to previous participants.
Our lab staff is trained to apply EEG nets to afro-textured hair of varying lengths, styles, and textures. If you have additional questions about our process, please ask in the form below! |

How do we measure heart activity?

We use small sticky pads called electrocardiography (ECG) to measure your heart beat. We have you place them directly on your skin. These are very similar to what would be used in a doctor's office.
